Coming home from the hospital as new parents was rough. Everyone knows those first few weeks are a blur, and let me tell you…they totally are! It seemed to get better little by little each day. We were able to take care of ourselves a bit more and got into a good routine. My skincare routine was nonexistent for those first few weeks and honestly, that’s the last thing that was on my mind. I’ve finally fallen into a better routine that’s a little quicker than it use to be and I wanted to share. I hope my 5 minute new mom skincare routine can help another new mom out there.
Cleanse // I’m a double cleanser and always have been. It doesn’t really add much time to my cleansing routine because I don’t typically dry my face before going in with the second cleanse. I wash and repeat basically. Here are some of my fav cleansers that I used in the early days of being a new mom and now.
Toner // Right after I came home from the hospital my skin was like the Sahara Desert. I guess it’s a perk of breastfeeding that no-one warned me about. Thanks. Anyways, nothing helped with my dry skin as quick as I wanted it to. I started using a hydrating toner and even spraying several layers and I fell like it slowly helped. I know it didn’t make it worse, if that was even possible. I didn’t start using any acids until a few months postpartum because of my dry skin and my fear of something transferring in my milk. I did a bit of research and found that anything OTC was pretty much fine (always consult your doctor, I’m not an expert). Here are some of the toners I used immediately postpartum and now.
Eye Cream // I forgot my eye cream for weeks, probably a little longer. I’m really picky about my eye creams and have finally found a few trust worthy products I can 100% recommend.
Serum // Like I said, my skin was drrrrrry when I came home from the hospital with my baby girl. It hurt it was so dry. I layered hydrating serums every time I had a few minutes to myself but nothing helped. I’m using these right now and really think they have made a difference in my skin.
Moisturizer // I’ve always been one to use any moisturizer and call it a day. I never needed anything crazy and put all my faith in the serums/treatments I used. I woke up and recognized the importance of a good moisturizer after experiencing my postpartum dry skin. I bounce back and fourth between these.
No one needs an insanely time consuming skincare routine unless that’s your jam and you really want it. I use to be that person and I have no shame. Now, I like my sleep so my bedtime routine has been drastically cut down. My morning routine has been simplified too and honestly, I don’t see myself going back to anything longer.
