Adulting isn’t all it’s cracked up to be sometimes. Sure, you can eat cake for breakfast if you want and stay up as late as you want, but with freedom comes responsibility. Navigating adulthood and managing a good credit score can be daunting, but it doesn’t have to be anymore!
My credit journey started when I turned 18. I got my first credit card and thought I was on top of the world! I was a real adult! That was short lived because I maxed it out and ended up with four or five more cards along the way. I was always responsible with my money, but I honestly had no idea how credit cards worked or how they affected my credit score. Thinking back, I don’t think I even know why I needed a good credit score.

It went on and on for a few years until I realized I owed a lot more money than what I could realistically pay off in a reasonable amount of time. The importance of a good credit score finally hit me when I needed repairs on my car. I couldn’t afford to pay out of pocket so I applied for another line of credit and was denied. I thought I had hit rock bottom. I was confused and had no idea what I was going to do. I was paying my minimums and never late on payments, so why did my score go down?
Luckily, I learned and now. I also own a home, have been able to buy three brand new cars and travel trailer without settling for a high APR or outrageous downpayment.
