I enjoy getting facials every few months. I really think facials are a good way to keep your skin in tip top shape and practice self care. Two birds with one stone! I’ve had so many different instructions for facial aftercare. How I take care of my skin after a facial really prolongs my facial glow and my skin stays happy!
I am in no way an expert or professional aesthetician. These are my personal skincare tips for after a facial, and they work for me!
No Makeup
I strongly suggest you don’t wear makeup for at the very least 12 hours after your facial. If you can, stay away from makeup for 24 hours. I try to schedule my facials when I know I don’t have much going on for a few days after. It’s not the end of the world if you have to wear makeup the next day though. Just remember to make sure you apply with clean brushes and don’t touch your face.
Stick To a Simple Skincare Routine
For at least three days I lay off all the acids, serums and fancy products. I take my skincare routine right back to the basics. Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel is my go to cleanser because it’s super gentle and does the job. I stick with a gentle toner like Good Molecules Niacinimide Toner and a good moisturizer such as Dermalogica’s Active Moist. When I say I stick to the basics, I mean it. No eye cream and no treatments.

SPF!!!
SPF is super important! It’s always important, but right after a facial I think it’s crucial. I top my skincare routine with a good SPF like Drunk Elephants’s Umbra SPF 30 or Dermalogica’s Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF 50. I highly suggest investing in a good SPF and wear it every single day!
Drink Tons of Water
Up your water intake after a facial. I do, and I feel like it really helps my skin. Drinking water is important every day, but I really up my consumption after a facial. Drinking water helps your skin to begin with, so it’s a good idea to stay hydrated.
Sanitize, Sanitize, Sanitize!
The last skincare tip for after a facial I have is to sanitize everything! Anything that touches your face including glasses, pillowcases, cellphone and hats. Wash your sheets and pillowcases the day of your facial so you can come home to a fresh bed. You should clean your cell phone and glasses on a the regular but especially after you get a facial. These things can harbor bacteria and cause major breakouts if not sanitized properly.
