My husband and I took a day trip to San Fransisco this past July. One thing we both agreed on was to get ourselves some good seafood. The husband picked a restaurant, which ended up being Fog Harbor Fish House. Our lunch at Fog Harbor Fish House was amazing and honestly, one of the most memorable parts of our trip.
We flew up to San Jose, California for my birthday weekend. We decided to take a day trip up to San Fransisco. It was only an hour or so away from where we were staying. Neither of us had been so we figured why not?!
We trust Yelp when we are traveling, and luckily my husband searched through hundreds of reviews before settling on our lunch spot. After walking around Fisherman’s Warf for a bit, we decided it was time to eat.
I figured there would be a wait to be seated. Luckily, my husband used Yelp again to get us checked in and in the front of the line. We literally walked up, told them our name and were seated. There was a line out the door too!

I felt a bit underdressed since Fog Harbor has a somewhat fancy feel, but after looking around at everyone else, I felt a bit better. The restaurant was filled with tourists and some locals, I assumed. Everyone was dressed pretty casual even though there’s a more upscale vibe throughout the place.

Freshly baked sourdough and butter was brought to our table immediately. It was still warm and smelled absolutely amazing! Fresh out of the oven bread always makes my heart happy!
Since it was our first time dining at Fog House, we asked our waiter for some recommendations from the menu. I knew what I wanted and my husband had his heart set on clam chowder, but we were both curious as to what he would recommend.

First, we opted for the dungeness crab ceviche special which was recommended to us. I couldn’t stop eating it. I love ceviche, but this took it to a whole new level.
For our main dishes we ordered a clam chowder bowl with dungeness crab and a lobster roll. The clam chowder came in a freshly baked sourdough bowl and smelled amazing. I was able to steal a few bites before my husband devoured it and it smelled as good as it tasted! My lobster roll was huge! I’m a big fan of lobster rolls and hadn’t had one in years. It was hard to finish since it was so large and meaty.

We ended our meal with a hot cup of coffee and some biscuits. It was nice to sit and relax after such a large meal. The views of the harbor made it easy to sit back and enjoy our coffee.
It’s safe to say we would definitely go back to Fog Harbor and I recommend it to anyone going to San Fransisco. The price wasn’t too crazy for what you get and the food was absolutely amazing. The atmosphere and vibe was great as well. Our waiter was very adamant on us enjoying ourselves and taking our time to eat our meal even though there was a line out the door. He was in no hurry and really allowed us to relax and stuff our faces.
Pro Tips
- Check in on Yelp if you’re able to to save yourself the wait.
- If you know where you’re going, park in the designated lot. San Fransisco has expensive parking and most restaurants will validate your voucher. We were stuck paying $50 for a few hours.
- Bring a jacket or light coat. It gets windy and cold, even in the summer!
- Seafood dishes and chowders can be really filling. Go hungry and leave slowly! Take your time and enjoy your meal.
- Always ask for specials! Sometimes they will have a catch of the day not listed on the menu.
Next time you’re in San Fransisco, I highly recommend stopping by Fog Harbor for a meal!
