We all know we should do it, but how many of us actually do it? I’m guilty of not doing it enough. So here’s how I disconnect from social media and live in the now…
- Turn Off The Phone – I turn my phone on silent at a certain time each evening. I’m trying to make it 5 pm, but it’s more like 8 pm right now. I turn off the ringer and flip it upside down so I don’t see the glow.
- Turn Off Notifications – Most of my social media notifications are turned off so it limits the amount of time I spend looking at the apps. I don’t have Facebook or Instagram notifications on anymore because I found myself checking every time I got a like or follow.
- Keep Your Cell Upside Down – I like to turn my phone upside down if I’m out to dinner, hanging out with friends or going to bed. The light is distracting and always makes me want to pick it up and check whatever it is I check a million times a day. I’ve made this a habit, especially at the dinner table. It was hard at first, but now it’s automatic for me.
I know iPhones have a screen time option now, and that’s an awesome way for you to track the amount of time you spend on social media each week. I even think it breaks it down according to app and what you’re actually doing. I’ll be honest, I haven’t used that feature, though I really should.
Social media and our phones have become so important that sometimes we miss out on things that are happening IRL. Cherish those moments and live in the now with your friends and loved ones!
I hope you find a good way to disconnect for a bit of r&r!
I love this!
Each day is a struggle for me because I feel like I’m addicted to my phone and social media. Great tips and advice! Thanks!
Aren’t we all?! Thank you!! I hope you’re able to find some time to set the phone down…I’m working on it too!
Thanks for this! I always find myself reaching for my phone.
