Have you ever heard of light therapy for the skin?
I have been curious about it for a while, since I’ve read it can be good for preventing signs of aging. All the devices I looked at were upwards of $400 and I didn’t look must past the price tag to be honest. I’d rather take my chances and slather on more serums then spend that type of money on something I knew nothing about.
My curiosity led me to reach out to POLY and they gifted me a POLY Go Beauty device. The POLY Go Beauty boasts light therapy in the palm of your hand. It’s said to give 4.5 hours of battery life, 48 LED’s and has three different swappable heads (purchase seperatly). It can be shared with the whole family and retails for up to $299.95. That’s a steal compared to other devices on the market!

The three different treatments include a blue light for acne, red light for skin rejuvenation and a combination of red and infrared wavelengths for pain management. The treatment I’m most interested in is for skin rejuvenation. I want all the anti-aging help I can get!
POLY Go for skin rejuvenation utilizes red light at 633nm to target the dermis of the skin. It has been demonstrated that red light LED therapy promotes skin repair at the cellular level by directly stimulating specialized skin cells called fibroblasts, which are located within the dermis layer of the skin. Fibroblasts contain structures called mitochondria, which are responsible for the production of the cellular energy that is needed throughout the body. Red light energy at 633nm stimulates the mitochondria to increase production of cellular energy in the form of ATP (adenosine tri-phosphate). The increase in ATP energy stimulates the production of collagen and elastin fibers, which are then added to the skin to increase elasticity, reducing signs of aging in the process.

About Red Light
Red light at 633 nanometers has a long enough wavelength to penetrate the epidermis (outermost layer of the skin) and reach the dermis (the middle layer of the skin). This enables it to reach fibroblasts, special types of cells that sit beneath the skin and manufacture collagen – a protein that helps tighten and firm the skin and heal wounds.

Red light does this by acting on the mitochondria inside fibroblasts. Mitochondria are small organelles that exist inside most of the cells in your body. They produce the cell’s energy by absorbing oxygen and other materials, as well as by producing a molecule called ATP.
Exposing the mitochondria to red light at 633nm causes a number of changes in mitochondria, particularly, it increases the mitochondrial membrane potential, allowing the mitochondria to receive signals faster. Red light also causes an increase in the production of ATP.
Mitochondria produce ATP by a process called the “electron transport chain.” One enzyme involved in that process is ‘cytochrome c oxidase.’ Cytochrome c oxidase is also a “chromophore”; i.e, a moledule that responds to the presence of light.
Since cytochrome c oxidase is a necessary part in making cellular energy, and since it is stimulated by the presence of red light at 633nm, it will respond by increasing the production of cellular energy. This increases the activity of the cells themselves, and therefore causes the fibroblasts in the skin to produce more collagen to firm, tighten, and improve the overall appearance of the treated area.
My Experience

I read the directions and put the POLY Go Beauty device on the charger for a while. I hopped on my Instagram stories to test it out on my forearm like instructed and was please to find out my skin isn’t sensitive to light.
I urge you to read the directions thoroughly when using a device like this! You can do more harm than good if you don’t!
I was also please to find out I didn’t need to wear eye protection! I guess with red light therapy, eye protection isn’t necessary. It’s nice that they include the proper eye protection in the box though, in case you opt to try other forms of the light therapy.
I used it on my face after doing the forearm test and it felt fine. I did four minutes in each area. My skin felt warm, but that was about it. I used it on my whole face, then the backs of my hands and then my neck.
The device was easy to hold and is super lightweight. I sat in bed and read a book while I used it. It doesn’t make any noise and is surprisingly easy to use!
The Rejuviantion POLY Go is safe for daily use, unlike some of the other devices currently on the market. I haven’t noticed a difference yet but will continue to use until I do. I’ve read some really good reviews and have seen some amazing before and afters, so I have high hopes!!
I will have to do a follow up in a few weeks!
