Whole 30 has been the talk of the internet for months! I’ve been wanting to hop on the bandwagon, but with the wedding and honeymoon, it was hard to commit. We eat healthy normally, but probably not as healthy as we should.
I am a sugar addict. Think Buddy from the movie Elf. I’m Buddy, and I don’t care! The husband likes sweats even though he won’t fully admit it. He also likes Del Taco…another pleasure he won’t fully admit to.
We knew it would be a challenge, but that’s what it’s all about, right?!?
We started on February 5th, and I’m determined to make it a Whole 30 days!
First thing we did was glanced over the whole concept of the “diet”. Then we hit the store.
My take is that for the next 30 days, we are going to eat all whole foods. Nothing processed or anything that has added sugar (kill me now!). No bread or dairy. No beans. No peanut butter. Basically, starting from scratch and getting back to the basics of food.
We stocked up on veggies and fruits, and even grabbed some frozen veggies that were “steam in bag” for quick meals. We picked up chicken breast, eggs and raw turkey breast as well. Salmon is something we always have in our freezer, so we were good on that! We didn’t really make a list, or plan out meals out because both our work schedules are a little off, so sometimes we don’t have time to do what we planned and have to compromise.
The husband left town for work this last week so I was on my own.
I ate hard-boiled eggs and fruit for breakfast, veggies and chicken for lunch and I make fajitas for dinner for at least three of the days this first week. Coffee creamer is a no go, so I’ve been forcing myself to drink the black, which isn’t all that bad.
I made a mistake and drank orange juice this week thinking it was compliant. I looked it up and it’s not! Fruit juices are only to be used as marinades, so now I know!
I also started working out from home again, something I haven’t done since before the wedding. I’m doing Insanity Max 30 from Beachbody again because I loved it the first time I completed it!
I lost about 2 pounds, but that’s really not why I’m sticking to Whole 30. I feel better, and have a bit more energy at the end of the day than I did two weeks ago.
I’m excited to see what the next three weeks will bring and can’t wait to share with all of you!!
Pintrest has some amazing recipes that are Whole 30 compliant, so check those out if you’re wanting some inspiration!
Wow sounds interesting! I recently went where I eat fish as my only meat, and I’ve felt like I’ve had more energy too!
I’ve never head of Whole 30 – interesting! You lost me at no peanut butter LOL I liveee for PB! I recently got back into working out, too! It’s amazing how eating well can boost your energy. Hoping the next three weeks go well for you!
